Aug 21st At the all time at 339.08 spy was at the 2.5 resistance level, an overbought level, when that happens long puts are better odds then long calls. at the low at 218.26 spy was at the support 4 level, very oversold when that happens long calls are better odds. at 323.41 the recent high on june 8th spy was at the resistance 1.5 level, the upward momentum stalled there and spy started to drop, spy is now retesting 339.08, spy topped out at 339.10 spy weekly is in an uptrend and monthly chart is in a trading range (period of random fluctuation). spy daily chart is in a uptrend. vix over 22 is a bear market. today vix is 22.70 Elliot wave: Spy was in a 3 wave corrective up: a-b-c that is the 3 in the A-B-C 5-3-5 corrective down, the top of c was 323.41 jun 8th now spy is retesting that high. spy topped out at 339.10 . 339.10 may have been the top of c and leg C down has begun. Leg C down is historically about 161.8% of A, A was about 120 points x 161.8% = 194, if the top of c was 339.10 – 194 = 145, so the bottom of C might be around 145. The 323.41 top of c is being retested now. spy topped out at 339.10. 339.10 may have been the top of c and leg C down can begin. Fibonacci: spy has done a 100% retracement of the selloff, it will either retrace or make an extension now. thursday’s spy market facilitation index was a fake stopping out shorts and trapping longs spy weekly chart: market facilitation index was a squat indicating a breakout coming spy monthly chart: market facilitation index was a fake stopping out shorts and trapping longs daily fibonacci time zones show turning points on jun 18, jun 25, jul 7, jul 24, aug 24, oct 9, dec 28, weekly fibonacci time zones show turning points on jul 13, aug 3, sept 7, nov 2, feb 1, spy weekly and monthly charts are above the pivot at 299.66 the daily chart is above the pivot at 320.94 Spy on daily chart closed below it’s pivot feb 24th then crashed to 218.26, spy closed above it’s pivot on apr 6th and rose to 329.62 aug 3rd, the august pivot is 320.94, a move below that means momentum down. spy had a golden cross july 10th trin over 2.0 is panic selling. above 1.0 bearish, below 1.0 bullish. monday trin high was 1.78 more isolated lows: (sell signals in downtrend, resistance in uptrend) 319.25, 310.68, 307.13, 306.53, 298.93, 296.74, 285.54, 279.13, 272.99, 272.02, 243.67, 233.76, 218.26 some isolated highs: (buy signals in uptrend, support in downtrend)338.28, 323.41, 317.68, 313.84, 294.88, 263.33, 251.40, these isolated lows and highs are very important levels, they are buy, sell triggers and where the trend changes.

Butterflies have been the best way to trade TSLA. One cannot just have one dimension and only buy calls all the time. One has to learn to adapt or drown. Who else has made money in TSLA with Butterflies with me?

If you don’t do Verticals or Butterflies, you have most probably missed making any money in TSLA. Please learn to adapt and adjust trading strategies based on an individual stock’s character.

I was thinking is it possible or a foolish plan to create a pin for the same day of expiration. Eg. Tesla contract Aug 21. 2050/2100/2150 wide. I was wondering what it’ll be like vs just regular day trading it. What do you think

It is a great way to trade as long as you can pick a very realistic mid point. @kelvinopara but the best time to do pinning plays is not Friday but Tuesday or Wednesday

Click on all three and then go to Close Position. Then there will be options. Pick the one that describes the FULL butterfly. It’s usually the top option.

If you’re playing a directional butterfly, you want to put the short strikes at the price level where you think the stock is going to and set the wings where your cost of the trade is 1/5th of the width of the wings

Then it slowly moves back up. Is that your understanding as well based on your experience? I got out at 12:34 just before it started to run up 499 and leveling out at 497 at the close. I had a good week with other trades and felt like a small profit was good enough. I would have rather not watched it that time and let it go a bit more to make for the losses I did have this week. Oh well….

You have to have a process. You have to know why you’re getting in and what makes your setup fall apart. When it falls apart you need to plan for a loss that will be the resulting it. You need to size your trades assuming your setup will fail. You need to have a plan to scale in an out, unless you’re going all in/all out. You need to find a way to mute the voices in your head when you’re in the trade and let your plan navigate you through the trade.

@igor as sad as it is to say, I think I am one of many that want direct instruction while learning.. like a guide through trades to better understand. I think of it like playing craps. I couldn’t learn by watching, I learned by playing WITH someone by my side, helping me and explaining HOW to make bets… where to watch, how to play odds.. My plan is generic, learn to be profitable by trading options, but without extra guidance, it’s a coin flip on profits. I totally get “have a plan,” and I don’t knock it at all. But I know there are several of us here that can read about strategies and watch youtube videos until our eyes dry out, and still not completely understand the WHY behind many trades. I absolutely LOVE everyone in here and this the group is amazing, so please do not misunderstand what I am saying..

Since we are on the risk and trade plan discussion. Something I learned from the professionals here to turn into a no risk trade. I bought the 2 MSFT calls and locked in $300 profit. Could it be more? Sure. But was not my plan. Once those profit locked in, I bought 2 MSFT vertical spreads putting in $200 to make another $300 by expiration. If spreads don’t work out, I still pocket the 100 on MSFT trade overall. Made it a no risk and dont have to worry. This is the valuable stuff I am learning here. Need small wins and no home runs. At least not yet.
